Sunday, March 21st, 20102010 Floatopia Party in Pacific Beach
Avoids No Drinking on Beach Ban
Thousands of Spring Break visitors and local San Diego locals
took part in a now annual event called “Floatopia on the Bay”
The Floatopia event is held on Mission Bay behind Pacific Beach Drive
and Riviera Street in Pacific Beach and it is an event which
skirts the booze ban on San Diego beaches.
According to the current no alchohol on the beach laws
alchohol is not allowed on the beach but once someone
is “floating” on the water drinking is legal.
This event drew out an estimated 4,500 to 5,000+ participants
who went out in inner tubes, custom floatation devices,
surfboards, kayaks, rafts and paddle boats.
San Diego is known as a popular location for Spring Break
and the event drew a huge crowd from students visiting from
all over the country including Oregon State and Arizona State
University.
