Dalhausser and Rogers Win Gold in Beijing Olympics

Dalhausser/Rogers capture their first Olympic gold while continuing their dominance in the world of beach volleyball

Phil Dalhausser prepares to crush a volleyball in Manhattan Beach

Phil Dalhausser prepares to crush a volleyball in Manhattan Beach

LOS ANGELES — August 22, 2008 – Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers have proven that they are the most dominant men’s beach volleyball team in the world, capturing their first Olympic gold medal Friday morning in Beijing. They defeated Brazil’s Marcio Araujo/Fabio Luiz by a score of 23-21, 17-21, 15-4. The duo was ranked second coming into the Summer Games; the top-ranked team of Ricardo and Emanuel of Brazil was upset in the semifinals by Araujo and Luiz

The first time was a charm for the top American team; the Beijing Games mark the first time either Dalhausser or Rogers has competed in the Olympics. The team suffered an early defeat at the hands of the Latvian team during the pool play, but after suffering that initial setback, the “Thin Beast” and “The Professor” moved easily through the Round of Sixteen.

Dalhausser and Rogers will return to AVP Crocs Tour action August 29-31 in Mason, Ohio, where the newly crowned gold medalists seek to defend their title as Cincinnati champions. They will then continue on to the AVP Crocs Shootout presented by Bud Light, in their shared home city, Santa Barbara, Calif.

Misti May Treanor and Kerri Walsh Capture Gold in Beijing

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

May-Treanor/Walsh become first ever Olympians to win back-to-back beach volleyball gold medals while continuing their unprecedented winning streak

Misti May Treanor and Kerri Walsh in Manhattan Beach

LOS ANGELES – August 21, 2008 — Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh have once again etched their name in history, maintaining their reputation as one of the greatest beach volleyball teams of all time, capturing their second consecutive Olympic gold medal by defeating China’s top team of Tian Jia and Wang Jie, who are ranked second in the world behind May-Treanor and Walsh. The dominant United States women’s team was heavily favored entering the Olympic Games to repeat their gold medal winning performance from Athens (2004; they did not disappoint as they once again reign as Olympic champions and become the first team, male or female, in Olympic beach volleyball history, to win back-to-back gold medals.

May-Treanor and Walsh maintain the upper hand over Tian and Wang with a 6-2 overall record against the Chinese team but winning against this powerhouse with homefield advantage did not prove to be easy. The Americans took the match winning 21-18,21-18 in front of a full house at Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Grounds in Beijing.

Eight being an auspicious number in China, it is appropriate that May-Treanor and Walsh continued to build on current records notching their 108th consecutive match victory. With their gold medal winning performance, the duo also captured their 19th consecutive title. The reigning World Champions, two-time Olympic gold medalists and five-time AVP Crocs Tour champions have smashed the previous records of 89 straight match wins and 15 straight tournaments, set by May-Treanor and Walsh before the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

For Walsh, this milestone also marks her 100th career victory, becoming the youngest and fastest to ever reach the century mark. Walsh joins partner May-Treanor (103 wins) as only the second female in this elite group that includes beach volleyball legends Karch Kiraly, Sinjin Smith, Randy Stoklos and Kent Steffes.

May-Treanor and Walsh will return to the AVP Crocs Tour August 29-31 as the summer-long tour kicks off the AVP Crocs Shootout Series in Mason, Ohio, where the newly crowned gold medallists seek to defend their title as Cincinnati champions.

Come surf, have fun and make a difference at the Tony Mezzadri Surf Classic. We expect approximately 100 surfers to compete in the contest to be held at the Ocean Beach Pier.

The surf contest will begin at 7:00 am. The heats will be completed on the beach, beginning with the kneeboarders.

Sign up for the “tricks on logs” division and treat the fans to some retro longboarding moves on one of our old logs from the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Appreciate your heritage further and try your luck riding a genuine Bud Caldwell 10’6” plank from the 1950’s. No special heat; we’ll just clear the area and let you go for the glide!

The band will begin playing around 11:00 and burgers, hot dogs, and fish will be grilled around noon after the competition is over. The event will finish up by 3:00 or 4:00.

Hope to see you there!

Santa Monica Hotels and Lodging now on Google Maps
New mapping System Makes Find a Hotel “easier”
http://www.click2map.com/maps/socalbeachesmagazine/SantaMonicaHotels

Loews Beach Resort Santa Monica

SoCal Beaches Magazine has introduced a new feature on their website which showcases
hotels in Santa Monica on Google Maps.

“This has been a feature many clients and guests have requested” stated Leslie Alexander
who works in the reservations department. “Many guests are looking for hotels that are either on the beach or close to the beach and by featuring the hotels on Google maps they can easily see not only the location, but also the hotel room pricing”.

“It is a great service” said Hans Wolfright who recently booked his vacation to Santa Monica on the new system. “We like to be within walking distance to everything, but we do not want to stay in the most expensive hotels”, he said. “This system allows us to see which hotels offer the best rates for where we like to stay”.

Currently the SoCal Beaches Magazine travel website has Google maps for hotels in Pacific Beach, Mission Beach / Mission Bay and aslo La Jolla.

“Our goal is to have hotels along the coast featured on Google Maps said company spokesperson Mark Fitzgerald. “We have seen a positive responce from clients and are preparing to move forward offering other hotels on maps for Orange County and more of Los Angeles.
