Picking the world’s “best beaches” may be difficult for some but
never for me as a photographer, writer and traveler for
“Southern California aka “SoCal” Beaches Magazine and TV”.
I travel and visit beach locations and destinations and normally
cruise in my SUV so I can bring my mountain bike beach cruiser
and travel and live like the locals do. As a resident of Mission
Beach in San Diego I am certainly biased in my choices since
I love the place I live more than any other spot on the earth.
With that said I have no doubt picked another beach location I
consider paradise and Balboa Island and Newport Beach California
embraces the oringinal surf culture and “Beach Boy” lifestyle
more than most on the coast. The area has the long winding
oceanfront boardwalks that are safe and loaded with cottages
and newly developed beach homes creating a colorful blend in
Balboa Island has a small town feel and does not have any high
rises which makes you comfortable the minute you drive in. There
is plenty of paid parking lots and 2 piers to walk and visit along
with a ferry, nautical museum and other attractions worth visiting.
As I wondered around the beach area in the morning the smell of
morning breakfast shops on the boardwalk invaded the area and
locals came in for pancakes, burritos, omlettes, coffee and
the normal morning food items that you see in places like
Pacific Beach San Diego.
Why Do I Love Balboa Island in Newport Beach and What
Makes it the #1 Best California Beach for 2013?
Great boardwalks –
The boardwalks have tons of super cool beach pads sitting right on them.
They are long and relaxing with people of all ages getting out early
walking and working out.
This area has some of the best beaches in California and is also home to
“The Wedge” surfing spot. Known more for body surfing and boogie boarding
there are also plenty of good surf breaks in the area as well.
This area is family friendly and the pier, park and host of playground
equipment make this a place where kids have plenty to go.
Plenty of great little beach hotels like “The Balboa Inn” offer a
cozy beachfront location with great restaurants, shopping and
things to do close by.
Although I have not researched the area I can see the history
of this place dates back to the early 1900’s with the loads
of cottages all over the island. Balboa Island encompasses
a wide range of old beach cottage “surfer pads” along with
some super new and well developed million dollar homes.
The blend between the average surfer pad and super high end
estates with a lon traditional beach culture, surf shops,
beach bars, boardwalks and good looking people make this
a beach area in Orange County California worth visiting and
our “#1 California Beach for 2013”.
