Dalhausser/Rogers capture their first Olympic gold while continuing their dominance in the world of beach volleyball

Phil Dalhausser prepares to crush a volleyball in Manhattan Beach
LOS ANGELES — August 22, 2008 – Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers have proven that they are the most dominant men’s beach volleyball team in the world, capturing their first Olympic gold medal Friday morning in Beijing. They defeated Brazil’s Marcio Araujo/Fabio Luiz by a score of 23-21, 17-21, 15-4. The duo was ranked second coming into the Summer Games; the top-ranked team of Ricardo and Emanuel of Brazil was upset in the semifinals by Araujo and Luiz
The first time was a charm for the top American team; the Beijing Games mark the first time either Dalhausser or Rogers has competed in the Olympics. The team suffered an early defeat at the hands of the Latvian team during the pool play, but after suffering that initial setback, the “Thin Beast” and “The Professor” moved easily through the Round of Sixteen.
Dalhausser and Rogers will return to AVP Crocs Tour action August 29-31 in Mason, Ohio, where the newly crowned gold medalists seek to defend their title as Cincinnati champions. They will then continue on to the AVP Crocs Shootout presented by Bud Light, in their shared home city, Santa Barbara, Calif.
