Helen Woodward Animal Center presents its 3rd Annual
Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon
On Sunday September 7, 2008
Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon is a great family day at the beach for surfers and dog lovers alike.
This event will help raise awareness and money for orphaned pets while promoting responsible pet ownership.
Whether you want to surf for animals on your own or with your best four legged friend, there will be heats for both.
Here’s how it works;
Dog Surfers and Human Surfers raise money for animals by the number of waves they catch.
Both, people and pups, are encouraged to get their friends and family to sponsor them with a pledge per wave(i.e. $1.00 per wave or $10.00 per wave).
Surfers will estimate the number of waves they think they can catch so they can collect pledges prior to the Surf-A-Thon.
They will raise money by the number of waves they catch in a half hour.
The funds raised will be used to support all the programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe plans three surf-dog clinics to prepare dogs and their human buddies for the third annual Surf Dog Surf-a-Thon fundraiser.
There are three clinics to help dogs learn to surf before the event. Dog surfing clinics are Aug. 9 and 23 in Del Mar and Aug. 16 in Oceanside. You can call for information at 858-756-4117.
Last year, more than 50 dogs took part in the surf-a-thon. This year’s event is set to include help from Swami’s Surfing Assn., San Diego Surf Academy, pro surfer Guy Takayama and San Diego Pet Training.
