The womens AVP team of Misti May-Treanor and Nicole
Branagh bounced back from being knocked out in the semi
final round in Hermosa Beach the week before.
The pair secured a win over Annett Davis and Jenny
Johnson Jordan who are ranked third on the womens tour.

with Long Beach State in 1998, and Branagh earned their
second tour win of the season. May-Treanor is no stranger
to winning professionally in Long Beach, having won the
Long Beach Open in 2007 and 2008 with partner Kerri Walsh.

May-Treanor and Branagh have been working on some
adjustments to their game, and they seemed to pay off this
weekend. May-Treanor moved to the left side, with Branagh
going to the right.
“It feels good. It puts a smile on our faces,” May-Treanor said.
“I went to school here and have a house in the city. I love this
city, the people, the fans. I love playing in front of a home crowd.”
On the mens side Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers continued
to dominate the 2010 AVP Mens Tour with a win over Sean Scott
and John Hyden. The 2 volleyball “Super hero’s” lost their first
game and then came back to win the second two 21-17, 15-6.
The Olympic gold medal champs remain unbeaten on the 2010 tour
aside from a tie coming due to weather in Florida at the beginning of
the season.

The AVP volleyball tour has its share of partnerships
and break ups and some are for trying new chemistry
and other times it is for starting a family.
Womens AVP star Rachel Wacholder took off a majority
of the 2009 tour to have a baby and start a family.
Rachel Scott is getting back in form on the 2010 AVP Tour
Coming back is always tough especially in one of the toughest
and most competitive volleyball leagues in the world especially
when you have to start with a new partner and establish a
chemistry for winning.
Elaine Youngs and Rachel Scott one of the top womens volleyball teams
Last week in Hermosa Beach Rachel and partner Elaine Youngs
made it to the finals and started showing that they will be one
of the top women teams on the AVP tour in 2010 and beyond.

Rachel Scott, (formerly Rachel Wacholder) is married to AVP
mans pro Sean Scott and the pair both make sure that in addition
to being pros on the court they also spend a serious amount
of time working out and training off the court.
Rachel Scott - one of the sexiest women on the AVP Tour
Rachel Scott has always been known as one of the sexiest
women and swimsuit models on the AVP Tour and now
her fans and followers can expect to start seeing her on
the courts playing on Sundays as one of the top teams
competing on the sand courts of Southern California.

Rachels bio goes as follows:
Formerly Rachel Wacholder, Scott has established herself as one
of the top AVP Women on the Tour, with 23 championship match
appearances since the start of 2005.

Scott and Elaine Youngs won three tournaments during the 2005
season: the Cincinnati Open, the Huntington Beach Open and the
Boulder Open.In winning the AVP Cincinnati Open, Scott and
Youngs put a halt to the 50-match win streak held by Misty May-Treanor
and Kerri Walsh. The win in Boulder was special as well, as it happened
in her college town and on the same day her then-boyfriend Sean Scott
won the men’s title.

In 2006, Scott and Youngs claimed two more titles before parting ways.
Playing with Jennifer Kessy, the duo made it to a pair of finals and four
semifinals in total. Scott was chosen by Walsh in the Goddess of the Beach
tournament in September 2006 to be her partner in the finals, helping Walsh
win her first individual title. In 2007, Scott and Tyra Turner paired up to form
the fourth-ranked team on tour.

Scott and Turner advanced to five semifinals in 2008, including winning
the title in San Diego. Internationally the duo won two silver medals on
the FIVB Tour. Scott missed most of the 2009 season due to her pregnancy.

Olympic Gold Medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers
Win their 5th Straight Hermosa Beach Open
Phil Dalhausser delivers a crushing serve in Hermosa Beach
The AVP Tour came through Hermosa Beach July 16-18th and
Olymic champs Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers continued to
flex their muscle and show they are still the team to beat on the
mens tour.
Huge crowds came to the AVP Hermosa Beach Open
Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers won the AVP NIVEA Tour
Hermosa Beach Open Presented by Bud Light Lime on Sunday,
becoming the first team – men’s or women’s – to win the event
in five consecutive years.
Todd Rogers sends a shot over Brad Keenan in a semi final match
Dalhausser and Rogers, the top-seeded men’s team, beat 13th-seeded
John Mayer and Matt Prosser, 21-14, 21-11, in Sunday’s final. They
lost just one game in five matches throughout the weekend.
Phil Dalhausser dominates the AVP Tour
Their victory was their 54th open win together, moving them into third
place all time, ahead of current AVP Commissioner Mike Dodd and
Tim Hovland.
Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers celebrate the 54rth tour victory
“It’s pretty cool considering only one other team has won five
in a row (at the same location),” Rogers said, referring to
Mike O’Bright and Mike O’Hara’s five straight Manhattan Beach
wins from 1960-64. “It’s pretty special.”
John Mayer sends a spike across the net in Hermosa Beach
Mayer and Prosser were the lowest-seeded men’s team to make
a final this season.
“I would definitely say I was happy to be there. It wasn’t in the plans
as the 13th seed to be in the final,” Mayer said. “But at the same time,
when you get there, I planned on winning. But they make it tough on you.
I’m bummed now, but when I look back on it, I’ll realize it was a
heck of a weekend.”
Phil Dalhausser delivers another crushing serve
Dalhausser and Rogers continue to be a step above the others teams
on the tour and some experts think that the only competition they
have is in internation play and teams overseas.
AVP Hermosa Beach Open Highlight Videos
The AVP tour limits the number of international teams which can
compete so that may not be coming any time soon and until then
other teams will need to step up their game in order to be these
two volleyball “super heros”.
Phil Dalhausser - the most dominating player on the AVP Tour
The AVP Tour continues in Long Beach July 23rd and 24th
with the top 16 teams in the mens and womens division
playing a 2 day tournament.

The first weekend of the 2010 Over the Line or “OTL” Tournament
as it is called by locals did not disapoint OMBAC event organizers
who saw huge crowds show up for the opening weekend.
Fifty five thousand people were expected to attend the
4 day event which stetches over two weekends.
Players from the 2010 Over the Line Tournament
The event is clebrating its 57th year of fundraising for local
San Diego and beach area charities which include The Boys
Scouts, wheelchair OTL and many other local groups. Last
year the amount raised was around $100,000 dollars and this
years event seemed to be just as successful.
Some of the crazy outfits from the
The 2 weekend event features over 1,200 teams that play
a beach version softball game on a rectangular field where
the ball must first cross a line 25 yards in front of the batter
in order to be in play. Thus the term “over the line” was coined
to describe the main rule which makes this different from
other forms of softball and baseball.
The game was originally invented and created by volleyball
players looking for something to do while they waited to
play and thus the rectangular field fit well for the beach field
they started and continue to play on.
The Over the Line Tournament on Fiesta Island
The Over the Line Tournament is known for being a bit crazy
and “over the line”, when it comes the names of the teams
and some of the costumes and antics that the players and fans
go through when playing. Some of the teams are very competitive
while others are there more for the fun and fundraising. It is one
of the very few times that the public is able to bring alchohol to
the beach and many of the party goers take full advantage of
that time bringing large coolers of mix drinks and beer to
Fiesta Island.
2010 OTL Tournament Fiesta Island
Although the festivities can get a little crazy the event itself is
for a good cause and the patrons and teams all compete in
good fun.
The “OTL” Tournament brings in teams and players from a
large section of the Southwest including Arizona, Nevada
and Washington with many teams and players with over 20
years of experience. The first weekend of the event sorts out
the party teams from the series competitor teams and the
second weekend is much more of a 100% sporting event
with much fewer party goers.
One of the teams from the 2010 Over the Line Tournament
The Over the Line or “OTL” is referred to as Mardi Gras
San Diego style and was once looked at by ABC’s Wide World
of Sports as an event to cover. OMBAC, (Old Mission Beach
Athletic Club) the non profit group that runs the event declined
the event however due to the fact that many of the team names
and antics would have to be edited for television and that was
not good for the spirit of the event.
The Over the Line Tournament is one of the craziest and most
well known fundraising events in San Diego and will continue
to be so for years to come as old members of OMBAC pass the
torch to younger members.
